What is a HUBZone?
HUBZone is a United States Small Business Administration program for small companies that operate and employ people in Historically Underutilized Business Zones. Joining the HUBZone program makes your business eligible to compete for the program’s set-aside contracts.
What Businesses Qualify?
A small business by SBA standards, owned and controlled at least 51% by U.S. citizens with principal office located in a designated HUBZone and at least 35% of its employees HUBZone residents. Before you can participate in the HUBZone program, you must be certified by the SBA.
What Are The Benefits?
The government limits competition for certain contracts to businesses in HUBZones. Joining the program makes your business eligible to compete for set-aside contracts. HUBZone-certified businesses also get a 10% price evaluation preference in full and open contract competitions.
What About Jobs?
To qualify for careers with local HUBZone companies, you must reside in a HUBZone. The term “reside”, as defined by the SBA, means to live in a primary residence for at least 180 days, or as a currently registered voter, and with intent to live there indefinitely.
